This was a school assignement actually.
The assignement was to take a small team (we were a big team, 4 people. Small would have been 3 ) a digital camera and each take about 5 shots of amsterdam. They photo's were supposed to represent amsterdam in your eyes and this is what I came up with. The guy under the umbrella is my classmate Gino (someone whose doing the year over aswell, yey! familiar person). He and I formed a real team, me telling him what to shoot and him shooting the pretty pictures I took the umbrella one though.
Check out his DA space too he has some great photography there.
explanation
Now as I said we had to show how we saw Amsterdam. Now amsterdam is the best city in the world to me, I love it with all my heart and I've never had a bad time there. But lately things have changed in Holland. A few years ago two important people got assasinated and since then people have started hiding wherever they could. In this case an umbrella. Hiding and shielding themselves so they wouldn't stand out. Now in my opinion Amsterdam (and holland in general) has always had an 'hippie' vibe. We are accepting and loving and that is what makes me most proud of the country I live in. However, the people who choose to hide away from it all shroud themselves in darkness and can't see the beauty of this great country and city we live in. That is my message here. It's a long one granted.. but it's the message
The line at the bottom says (to the best of my translation skills) "If you say the same thing different, your saying something different." Which to me says, stop messing around and just say what you mean.
That's what I want, I want people around here to loosen up again, not be afraid to say whats on their mind anymore (though speak with respect), stop hiding and look at the sunshine! Because your missing it all!
LOVE! It's really good work, looks like one pic even though it's five merged ones. Makes me wanna visit Amsterdam. Looks like it's warmer there than here. *huddles in blanket*
hehe, photomanip is a crazy thing
That morning it wasn't even that warm!
Thanks for the ocmment ^.^ It's 6 photo's even I sneaked another one in there, shhh...
Oh that's awesome. I loved Amsterdam, except for the Red Light district.... got harassed there when we went to visit the Old Church in the afternoon. But the rest of the city is just amazing. I love the street shot you included on the top right and the bright murals!!
Thank you! Actually the bright drawings are a stall (thats standing there permanently, usually becomes like a grochery stall I think) and a little van! It was an amazing sight to see because behind that (which you cant see here right now..) there's a huge wall that's painted in the same style.
3 pieces of art together! Beautifull
I never go to the red-light district, nothing for me there But I guess that if you've never been in amsterdam you ought to visit, I've been there a few times, usually when I'm on my way somewhere else but I steer clear of it most of the time. Just in case..
Very good pic and very good message! Hehe studying these things myself makes me very eager to check this out and evaluate it. (ah those group-evaluations at school... lovely! If you call someone's work 'kiva' - aka finnish word for 'nice' - then you might as well just rip that piece of art up for them... 'nice' is just a death scentance in these things.) Luckily I can say so much good about this piece ^_^ It's very neatly done with the manip too! Seems you got the lighting in the pics to fit with each other very well. That's usually the biggest problem for me, but then I'm usually not taking the pics myself, but doing manips of existing pics, which leaves me with less to choose from. Of course that's not talking about school. I do a lot of photomanips (haven't in a while though) for an RP I'm in.
So all in all, very good ^_^ I like the feel of it and that you have such a well though-out message too ^_^ I think your love for Amsterdam shows through in the picture!
Oh and a question at the end: is that you sitting on the stairs?

"I'm a very responsible person - every time something goes wrong, it's my responsibility"
The philosophy behind the piece formed as we were walking through amsterdam but as I started thinking about the piece more thoroughly I realized that this was really what I wanted to say. I have a very strong feeling about my country and amsterdam in particular and the way everyone's sort of 'strayed' from their roots. But I hear that they've actually opened a school of meditation in holland recently (you got that right! a school, you know, for kids, where instead of praying before and after school, they meditate.) so things should get uber-relaxed again
OMG I have almost EXACTLY the same shoes! They're brown too. What, first you steal my job then you steal my shoes?
Just kidding. Kind of.
We are very similar.
And I love the hippie philosophy too. I was just born in the wrong decade, that's all. And I think the picture gets the feeling across really well! San Fran has that vibe too, that's why I love it there so much Everything in it goes together really well, from the colors to the lighting. It's hard to even tell it's made from more than one picture! Good job!
